Graziano Pennetta, born in 1995, began playing drums at the age of 12 as a self-taught musician. At 17, he started studying modern drums under the guidance of Maestro Alessandro Napolitano. Over the years, he expanded his musical skills by attending numerous masterclasses with internationally renowned musicians—drummers and non-drummers alike—such as Dennis Chambers, Steve Smith, Mark Guiliana, Kim Plainfield, Phil Maturano, Roberto Gatto, Ulysses Owens Jr., John Patitucci, Jed Levy, Bobby Watson, Roberto Cipelli, Giovanni Amato, Dado Moroni, Gegè Telesforo, Paolo Benedettini, Michele Rabbia, Mimmo Campanale, and many others.
In 2015, he began his academic studies at the Egidio Romualdo Duni Conservatory in Matera under the guidance of Bruno Astesana and Fabio Accardi, earning both the First and Second Level Diplomas in Jazz Drums and Percussion. In 2016, he recorded and arranged the album of his pop-rock band AREA 106, later participating in the “Medio Basento Contest Fest” and winning first prize, which led to their appearance at MEI (Meeting of the Independents) in Faenza.
In 2017, he had the opportunity to study with Maestro John Riley during a three-day drum campus. In 2018, he attended the seminars of the Nuoro Jazz Festival under the guidance of Stefano Bagnoli, Bebo Ferra, and Fulvio Sigurtà, and participated in a masterclass with New York jazz guitarist Peter Bernstein. In 2019, he took part in a three-day summer campus with pianist Antonio Ciacca and drummer Luca Santaniello. That same year, he began collaborating as the official drummer for the Italian national artist Giuseppe Povia—winner of the Sanremo Festival—performing in numerous concerts throughout Italy during the “DivertimenTour 2019.”
In June 2019, he won the second edition of the Onyx Jazz Contest with the H-owl Project, earning the opportunity to perform at the Winter Edition of Gezziamoci 2020. In November 2019, the group performed at the “Novi Sad Jazz Marathon” in Serbia. In March 2020, they recorded their debut album “BL!P,” released on June 19, 2020 under the Onyx Jazz Club record label (Matera) and presented during the Nuoro Jazz Festival and the summer edition of Gezziamoci 2021.
With the same ensemble, he collaborated with the internationally renowned trumpeter Paolo Fresu on the track “Would You Kindly?”, and with the London-based label Group Bracil, releasing the vinyl “Sea of Tranquility / 15:15.”
Since 2019, he has also been collaborating with Apulian singer-songwriter Domenico Larocca, recording the single “I Can’t Breathe” and participating in the Resetfestival in Turin, Medimex 2021 at SpazioPorto (Taranto), and the 2021 live session “Fatto d’Argilla” (Murgia Live Session), from which the album of the same name was released.
