Emanuele Marchetti

Emanuele “EMC” Marchetti is an Italian naturalised British freelance session drummer and drum teacher. Born and raised in Ancona, Italy, he grew up in a musical family; his father (classical flute player and music teacher) pushed him, at a very young age, into classical studies choosing violin as an instrument that would have developed his perfect pitch whereas his mother (a self-taught singer) shared with him the passion for music by playing many different records in the house. He started studying violin and piano at “Conservatorio di Musica G.B. Pergolesi” where he accomplished a Diploma in Music Theory and Solfeggio in 1997. After eleven and a half years of classical studies, due to his loss of interest for violin and the lack of motivation from his teachers, he decided to quit music and discover a new world, the Hip Hop Culture.

Through Hip Hop and its lifestyle, he fell in love with B-Boying (aka breakdance) which is gonna bring him to travel around the Europe and competing in several national and international dance contests; at the same time, it also made contact with another discipline, the DJing; the two combined together allowed him to understand the deep connection between the dance and the music, also the passion for vinyls collection and the research of the sound for the dancers have opened up the doors to all the 70’s and 80’s Funk, Jazz-Funk, Jazz-Rock, Fusion as well as 90’s golden age Rap Music. The wide listening of Break Beats and Grooves pushed him to resume his musical studies and finally land to his instrument: the drums. After studying for a year as a self-taught, it decided to push the approach to drums to a further and deeper level by taking private lessons with Andrea Morandi who gave him a huge musical and technical background.

He studied for a couple of years at LAJ “Libera Accademia del Jazz” under the guidance of Andrea Morandi and Roberto Gazzani, performing at “Camerino Jazz Festival” and “Fano Jazz by the sea”. In 2015, motivated by his dream to pursue a career in music, he decided to relocate to London. In 2016, he accomplished a Higher Diploma in Music Performance at ICMP “The Institute of Contemporary Music and Performance”. In 2019, he accomplished a First Class Honors Degree in Creative Music Performance at DIME Online “Detroit Institute of Music Education” associated with the Falmouth University in UK. He studied privately with Gabor Dornyei (Thunder Duo, Stanley Jordan), Chuck Sabo (Elton John, Natalie Imbruglia, Marcella Detroit), Fergus Gerrand (Sting, Duran Duran, Take That, Spice Girls, Morcheeba, Whitesnake, Brian Adams), Mike Sturgis (Wishbone Ash, Elton John, A-Ha, 21 Guns, Bob James, Natalie Cole), Paul Elliot and, recently, with the legendary funk master David Garibaldi (Tower of Power).

He also attended several masterclasses and clinics with master drummers like Benny Greb, Christian Meyer, Josh Dion, Mark Guiliana, Steve Smith and Horacio “El Negro” Hernandez. London based, he’s keeping a very busy schedule between performing live and teaching: as a performer he played some of the biggest festivals in the UK such as Glastonbury, Isle of Wight, Jazz & Blues Callander Festival, and Upton Blues Festival. In 2020 he performed live in a TV Show for Manoto TV at Wimbledon Studios playing for the well known Iranian singer Mansour.

In March 2021 he’s getting featured in Rhythm Magazine in the article written
by Mike Sturgis entitled “Positivity and Resilience in a global pandemic”
where he talks about his experience of staying positive and creative despite
the total loss of work caused by the pandemic and reinventing himself with
new skills acquired during the lockdown.

As a teacher, he’s the drum tutor of the London Music School in Hackney Wick and the Pinner Drum School in North West London directed by Gabor Dorniey; he’s also giving 1-to-1 private in-person and online lessons. His approach to teaching is not only related to passing on the knowledge of
drumming and music, but it goes further and deeper into helping, empowering, and motivating people to discover their true potential through art and music.
